So lately I’ve been searching around for some good music to listen to and found the site of Catbird Records. I haven’t plugged stuff that wasn’t my own here before, but it seems like a good idea. I liked pretty much every song I downloaded from here. All their releases seem really solid and totally my kind of thing. I had already been into Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin (especially the album Broom), so it makes a lot of sense. If you like my stuff, I think you’d probably like much of what Catbird has to offer.

Something I should’ve done a long time ago: I added ID3 tags to all the songs on this site, as well as artwork, so your iTunes or whatever should be able to import the artwork, song titles, album/EP titles, year, track order, etc now from the MP3s. Bad news: if you’ve already got all the MP3s, you’ll have to download them again to get the latest fancy versions, if that is important to you.

Instead of using iTunes to do it (which I have tried in the past, only to find my tagging didn’t stick, or I was doing something wrong), I found this little free tool that was clean, simple and quick, and I’ll be using it to do the tags from now on: the Stamp ID3 Tag Editor.

This is a fun upbeat one and I did all the non-drum recording in Sonar 7, which I’m learning lately. The drums were recorded with one SM58 set up in front of the drum kit. They sound pretty nice for the extremely simple setup.

We’ll be doing more songs under the name Marshmallow Mission (which is my friend Dan Bernard on drums and me doing everything else), using the same quick ‘n’ dirty drum recording technique.

Also, perhaps of interest is that this song is kind of a rework of That’s What People Say, from my earlier work, Songs of the Month 2005.

…since I’ve made anything I thought was worthwhile to put up here! But I have some plans… Gonna get together with Dan this weekend (I hope) and figure out (and hopefully record) some drums on a couple new songs I’ve got. Also… still working on my upcoming well-recorded EP How Does It Know?. It’s been slow going, because I’m working hard on all the parts and with various people with various schedules… Maybe that’ll be ready in 6 months? I have no idea. It’s going well, though. There will be saxophone.

So, anyway, yeah, I guess expect some new songs here in a few weeks, under the name Marshmallow Mission (my new moniker for music of the kind you will hear in a few weeks). Thanks for continuing to listen!
